Potting Pickups #

Potting of electric guitar pickups is the process of saturating the pickup in melted wax. The process of saturating the pickups in melted wax will help to isolate them and reduce movement of the coils. Because of this, potted pickups have reduced likelihood of excessive noise, microphonic feedback or even mechanical failure.

Traditionally potting wax was made up of Paraffin and beeswax with a ratio of roughly 80/20. But just using paraffin on its own is probably easier as it has a lower melting point.
